Santora
Fine Art |
Carol Santora says of her work:
"My work is the statement of
my passion.
Focusing my painting on wildlife
especially the endangered great cats,
I am inspired by their magnificence and beauty
and motivated by what I learn
in regard to the dangers that these exotic cats face.
My work is a representation true to nature
and expresses my own personal vision."
To capture the essence of the animals she paints
and to convey a sense of vitality,
Carol uses intense color
and represents the animals in intimate portraits
and scenes in their natural habitat.
She captures the grandeur, courage and grace of the animal,
bringing wildlife within reach of her audience.
Her work has been called
intense, vivid and dynamic.
Carol travels to conservation and rescue facilities
all over the United States to study wildlife. Her unique perspective and thorough knowledge base
combined with passion for her subject
and mastery of skill has set her work apart
from many wildlife artists.
A portion of the sales of her great cat paintings is donated to feline conservation centers.
Biography
Carol Santora’s work is the statement of her passion. An artist
for over twenty years, she has worked in charcoal, oil,
watercolor, printmaking, acrylic, soft pastel and mixed media.
Her subjects have included pets and domestic animals, flowers,
Maine seascapes, and wildlife.
In 1998, after completing a painting of a jaguar while trying a
crumpled paper technique in watercolor,
she became focused on
wildlife, particularly the endangered ‘great’ cat.
Her work is perpetually motivated by the great cats’ beauty and
magnificence, as well as the dangers that it faces.
Santora’s unique painting style is expressive of her own
personal vision, and ranges from representational scenes of wild
cats in intimate portraits and scenes in nature to more
conceptual mixed media work.
Santora travels to conservation
centers and rescue facilities all over the United States to
study wildlife.
She keeps current on events affecting wild cats
and those in captivity. In addition, she donates a portion of
her ‘great’ cat sales to feline conservation.
Santora accepts commissions for pet and animal portraits,
and
also creates
marine art and florals. She teaches workshops in the southern Maine area. She has exhibited in solo, juried and group shows
all along the east coast as well as in California, Wyoming, New
York City, St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands and in France.
She
has garnered over four-dozen awards for her work at local,
regional and national shows including several First Place, Best
in Show, and People’s Choice awards.
She is a member of the Wildlife Artist Association and several
wildlife conservation groups, a juried member of the Art Guild
of the Kennebunks, Maine Women in the Arts, and the York Art
Association in addition to her other professional affiliations.
Her work is part of many corporate and private collections in
the United States, Canada, Europe and the Netherlands.
