About the Inn

Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, this former sea captain's home offers the grace and splendor of a bygone era.

Built in 1860 on property given to him by his father, Captain Melville Walker made this beautiful home his personal family residence. The grandson of one of the earliest Kennebunkport families, Captain Walker was a merchant sea captain who sailed around the world, often bringing his wife, Abbie, and children with him on his journeys.

Highly respected, Captain Walker was known as a fastidious navigator and savvy merchant. His grand home and its spacious landscaped lawns now welcome guests from around the globe.

The Maine Stay Inn & Cottages offers a rich variety of bed and breakfast inn accommodations. Guest rooms and suites in the historic main house evoke a character and allure of a bygone era and provide guests with a classic bed and breakfast experience, while our romantic Cottage Suites offer more spacious and contemporary lodging with added privacy. Our classic cottages are airy and charming, a perfect choice for travelers requiring extra space and separate beds or families traveling together. Cottage suite #6, a two bedroom cottage, is ideal for families or extended stays.

The comforts of modern life are tastefully present in each of our guest quarters. Each room or suite offers firm beds, private baths, fluffy 100% cotton towels, fine linens, specialty soaps and amenities, TV/DVD or VCR, hair dryers, wine openers, wine glasses and daily housekeeping service with incredible attention to detail. Some have fireplaces, whirlpool tubs, breakfast rooms or small kitchens. All are air conditioned in the summer.

A fresh fruit starter begins our breakfast service, and an assortment of gourmet teas and coffees, as well as a choice of juices, is always available. In the warmer months, guests enjoy breakfast on our front porch or in our restored Victorian dining room. We take great pride in serving fresh and local foods, and always strive to accommodate those with dietary restrictions, particularly those with gluten intolerance.

In the summer, beach towels, umbrellas, and chairs are available for use by our guests.
