MONIQUE BOUSQUET ART GALLERY CLAY ART |
Monique Bousquet is a ceramic
artist of international acclaim. Working intuitively, she lets the
porcelain guide her to create sensuous, handbuilt sculptural collages of
layered organic and geometric compositions. Found objects impressed into
fresh porcelain provide appealing
texture.
The vibrant, hand painted glazes of her porcelain forms (fired at about
2200º F) shimmer with subtle gradations of saturation.
Glass is often fused in the glaze firing, adding a rich depth to the
work. Each one-of-a-kind composition — signed, numbered, and dated by
the artist — requires hours of work to create.
Bousquet participated in an invitational exhibit at the Comune di Vietri
Sul Mare, one of Italy’s major ceramic centers.
The Comune’s ceramic art museum, recognizing the aesthetics of her work
and her mastery of porcelain, acquired one of her ribbon vases for its
permanent collection. She was also awarded a prize in the International
Artist’s Liaison Competition and exhibit in Los Angeles.
Bousquet’s art has been shown in France, Italy, and the U.S. She was an
active artist in Italy for more than 20 years. She was a gallery artist
at the prestigious Galleria Gagliardi in San Gimignano, Italy for a
number of years.
Rizzoli, a premier Italian publisher, asked Bousquet to author 2 how-to
books on the art of ceramics, “Corso di
Ceramica”
(also published in
French) and “Corso Rapido di Ceramica”; both of which have had numerous
editions.
Bousquet is a cum laude art graduate of Louisiana Tech. In 1998, she
returned to her native Maine and established her studio-gallery, Clay
Art, in Kennebunkport at the Breakwater Hotel, across from Mabel’s
restaurant and the Green Heron Inn,
1 mile from Dock Square, Kennebunkport. |
